Trump Pulls Troops from Syria Citing Concerns over Bone Spurs

President Trump, haunted by painful memories of the bone spurs that kept him from military service during the Vietnam War, has ordered the removal of U.S. military forces protecting the Kurdish allies in Northern Syria. This opens the door for the anticipated military intrusion into Syria by Turkey, where Trump has personal business interests. Turkey considers our Kurdish allies to be his enemies.

Facing a backlash from Democrats and Republicans alike, Trump responded by tweeting: "As I have stated strongly before, and just to reiterate, if Turkey does anything that I, in my great and unmatched wisdom, consider to be off limits, I will totally destroy and obliterate the Economy of Turkey (I’ve done before!)."

Great and unmatched wisdom? His bone spurs must be talking to him today.

The Social Security Stimulus Package

The experts have told us for years that Social Security is going belly-up and needs a complete overhaul. Most of these so-called experts work for the government, and have never contributed a dime to Social Security. I am a baby boomer. Recent studies show that we will be the first generation that actually pays more into Social Security than we will take out in our lifetimes.

Democrat-In-Chief Barack Obama’s response to this looming Social Security crisis was to cut worker payroll deductions for Social Security by 2% in 2011 and 2012 in another of his ill-conceived attempts to stimulate the economy. Have you felt stimulated over the last two years? Me neither. Cheated would be a better way to describe it. The Social Security program conceivably lost billions of dollars in funding at a time when many politicians, mostly Republicans, are desperate to dismantle it.

Republicans would prefer to let us invest our retirement income with those good and honest folks on Wall Street and have you forget the Wall Street and banking shenanigans that saw most of Main Street lose at least a third of their 401k retirement income in 2008 and 2009.

Legislators have proven time and again that they have no conscience when it comes to drafting legislation for “the rest of us” while exempting themselves. Laws governing Social Security or insider trading do not apply to Congress, and their pay-for-life entitlements.

The only way for government to work effectively is for the people who work in government to share in the problems so that they can come up with the solutions that would benefit everyone.

Obama’s Social Security Stimulus Package expired at the end of 2012, but he has four more years to conjure up new ways to get into our pockets and increase the national deficit while Congress simply kicks the can down the road with short-term fixes to long-term problems.

Leap Years Aren't the Same Any More

Scooter truly was this man's best friend for almost 12 years. He died unexpectedly of Addison's Disease (undiagnosed) on 2-29-08 at approximately 8:30 p.m. during what we thought would be a simple overnight observation at the vet's office. I suppose God decided to take him in a leap year to lessen our pain, but the emotional struggle continues...

Smokin' Joe's Last Fight

Former heavyweight boxing champion Smokin’ Joe Frazier lost his final fight last night to liver cancer. He was 67. As was so often the case throughout his professional career, Joe fought with courage, but his opponent was too big to beat.

His speech was slurred in the last few years, most likely the result of brutal battles against George Foreman and Muhammad Ali.

Foreman knocked the undersized champion out twice. The first time they fought Foreman knocked Frazier down six times in only two rounds to take the title. Frazier was fearless, but that was obviously the wrong tactic as George simply overwhelmed the hard-charging champion.

The three fights against Muhammad Ali were wars and may have been the greatest trilogy in heavyweight boxing history. Frazier became the first man to defeat Ali in a 15 round decision when they met in Madison Square Garden on March 8, 1971. Joe would later say that it was the greatest night/fight in his life and few would disagree. In all three of their fights, Joe never gave an inch and the two boxers battled fearlessly. Ali would win a 12 round decision in the rematch at Madison Square Garden. The rubber match came in the steamy “Thrilla’ in Manila” in 1975. Joe was fearless as usual, and kept pressing with his ferocious left hook, but Ali fought just as hard and continued to land vicious jabs throughout the first 14 rounds of the scheduled 15 round fight. Joe’s trainer refused to let him come out for the final round, fearing that Joe was no longer able to see Ali’s punches. Legend has it that Ali was considering not coming out for the final round either because of all the damage Joe had inflicted upon him. Ali went on to say that this fight was “the closest thing to dying” he had ever experienced.

Now, only Joe knows.
